The design element of the Mangopare derives from the traditional Maori forms such as kowhaiwhai (painting), ta moko (Maori Tattooing),tukutuku (flax panels) and toi whakario (wood carving).Riki Tipene successfully represented strength/determination, and reflects the Hammerhead's tenacious nature in this mixed media scultpure.
